ALDOT Central Business District

The elevated portions of I-59/I-20 through downtown Birmingham’s Central Business District were over 40 years old, in disrepair, needed upgrading. The CBD Bridge Project is the largest project in ALDOT history. The scope of work includes replacement of the I-59/I-20 bridges, and approaches on I-59/I-20 from the I-65 interchange to north of the 31st Street North Interchange. This involves the redesign of the route interchange with I-59/I-20 and Red Mountain Expressway, as well as the demolition and rebuilding of bridges.
