50 Years of Advancing Infrastructure in the Southeast HISTORY

1975 – 1979

Federer-Bhate & Associates (now known as BHATE Geosciences Corporation) was established by Uday Bhate in Birmingham, Alabama in response to the needs of the local construction industry. Earlier project assignments included UAB campus, multiple Birmingham parking decks, Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center, Exchange Security Bank Building – constructed after the demolition of the Tutwiler Hotel, Citadel Cement plant in Demopolis, and exploration services for Southern Company on the 9,000-acre property near Selma, Alabama.  BHATE did numerous projects with South Central Bell, Alabama Power, Baptist Health Systems, St. Vincents, Brookwood Hospital, and contractors such as Brasfield & Gorrie, Brice, Hoar, Robbins, and many others.

1980 – 1985

Our growth continued and the name Federer-Bhate was changed to Bhate Engineering Corporation in 1980. Development activity was gaining momentum along the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast, and we worked on numerous high-rise condominium and DOD projects between Panama City Beach and Pensacola Beach areas.  Bhate established Gulf Coast offices.

Our Environmental Services Group was formally established in in 1983 to provide services to the mining and petroleum industry as new EPA regulations were passed.

Wal-Mart was in a significant growth mode and engaged BHATE to provide geotechnical and testing services on numerous 1M+ SF distribution centers and stores in the southeast US.

1986-2000

We provided environmental services to numerous major corporate and institutional clients to achieve compliance with the new EPA UST rules. The environmental group experienced significant growth due to our problem solving and trusting relationships with clients and regulatory authorities.

Our established airport and infrastructure services group worked on numerous major airports and tunnels such as the Cumberland Gap Tunnel.

2001 – 2015

The company name was changed to Bhate Geosciences Corporation in 2003 to reflect the broad spectrum of services in our portfolio including geophysics, SUE services, GPR, and subsurface ground remediation.

Our company was very fortunate in working with UAB on the $100M Shelby IBRB building, the $2 billion Honda Motors plant in Lincoln, Alabama, multiple K-12 schools for COB and Jefferson County School Systems, and the $3 billion Thyssen Krupp steel mill in Calvert, Alabama.

2016 – Present

Our senior principals, Uday and Chuck, are now focused on mentoring the next generation. Our approach is mutual learning to create a collaborative and skills-focused model that inspires the up and coming generation to continue the firm’s reputation and legacy.
