50 Years of Advancing Infrastructure in the Southeast LEADERSHIP

David Johnson, P.E.

Senior Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing Engineer

With over 25 years of experience in managing geotechnical, construction materials testing, and special inspection projects, Mr. David Johnson is a seasoned professional in the field. His extensive geotechnical expertise spans subgrade stabilization, shallow and deep foundation observation, pile load testing, and retaining wall construction, among other critical areas.

David has successfully led numerous construction materials testing projects, covering a wide range of materials including soil, aggregate, concrete, masonry, structural steel, fireproofing, waterproofing, asphalt, and concrete pavements. His specialization also extends to performing special inspections as outlined in the International Building Code (IBC) for soils, foundations, concrete, masonry, steel fabrication and erection, precast concrete fabrication and erection, and wood framing.

His expertise in concrete is comprehensive, with a focus on precast, prestressed, and post-tensioned concrete. He holds Level 2 certifications in both bonded and unbonded post-tension concrete, as well as a Level 3 certification from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. David’s deep understanding of prestressed concrete has enabled him to assist clients in solving complex challenges, resulting in significant time and cost savings.

In addition, David is well-versed in performing pavement failure analyses, conducting structural concrete inspections, designing subgrade stabilization methods, and specifying concrete foundations and retaining walls. His work also includes evaluating earth dams and their outlet works, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

David earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. He is also an esteemed Adjunct Professor and Instructor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he teaches courses in Soil Mechanics, Soil Engineering, Foundation Engineering, and Soil Engineering Laboratory within the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering.
